How Stillness Supports Your Recovery

What does your recovery practice consist of? Do you even have one? It’s ok if you don’t. None of our posts are to cast judgment on what you may or may not be doing. Our intentions are to simply help you build an awareness of yourself. To build or rebuild the agency and autonomy that you have with how you take care of your body.

How can stillness be recovery? Well it has to do with the needs of your brain. Your brain is constantly taking in input and sensorial information of the outside world to ensure you’re safe. However your body is a dual feedback system and also needs to communicate with you about its internal world. It is our job to take that information to help fulfill the needs of our organism, our body.

In order to tell you about its internal needs, the body needs less exterior input aka stillness. Your exterior environment will easily override your interior signals especially if your exterior world contains a lot of over-stimulating stimuli. Your brain needs to process these stimuli to ensure you’re safe first and foremost.

Now think about how much stimuli you have in one day in your life. Think video games, social media, and media in general today. All made to strategically grab your attention. Which distracts you from having any time for your internal self.

How can you compete when these platforms understand your biology better than you do? Educate yourself. Understand why quiet and stillness is important to your well-being rather than making statements that it’s not something you can do. And guess what, there’s a method that can help!

Yoga Nidra / NSDR is so much more than a relaxation practice. It is a strategic technique that drops your brainwave states which in turn shifts your physiology. Yoga Nidra / NSDR is not meditation nor is it only a body scan. It is a whole body technique that uses the backdoor of relaxing physical tension to help us relax our mental and emotional tension. Yes, it can be that simple.

Like everything else you train for, stillness requires time, attention and training. Which is why we’ve offered an extension free library full of Yoga Nidras / NSDR’s for you to practice at home in your own time. Watch the following short video on what gifts Yoga Nidra / NSDR can give you.
